Pursuant to New York City’s Housing Maintenance Code, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) issues violations against conditions, in rental dwelling units and buildings, that have been verified to violate the New York City Housing Maintenance Code (HMC) or the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law (MDL).
Each row in this dataset contains discrete information about one violation of the New York City Housing Maintenance Code or New York State Multiple Dwelling Law. Each violation is identified using a unique Violation ID. These Laws are in place to provide requirements for the maintenance of residential dwelling units within New York City.
Violations are issued by Housing Inspectors after a physical inspection is conducted (except for class I violations which are generally administratively issued). Violations are issued in four classes: Class A (non-hazardous), Class B (hazardous), Class C (immediately hazardous) and Class I (information orders). The base data for this file is all violations open as of October 1, 2012. Violation data is updated daily. The daily update includes both new violations and updates to the status of previously issued violations. An open violation is a violation which is still active on the Department records. See the status table for determining how to filter for open violations versus closed violations, and within open violations for a more detailed current status.
The property owner may or may not have corrected the physical condition if the status is open. The violation status is closed when the violation is observed/verified as corrected by HPD or as certified by the landlord. Using other HPD datasets, such as the Building File or the Registration File, a user can link together violations issued for given buildings or for given owners.

Pursuant to New York City’s Housing Maintenance Code, the Department of Housing
Preservation and Development (HPD) collects registration information from owners of
residential rental units. Owners are required to register if they own residential buildings
with three or more units or if they own one- or two-family homes and neither they nor
members of their immediate family live there. Registrations are required upon taking
ownership of a qualifying building, and once a year thereafter.

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Housing Litigation Division (HLD) initiates' actions in the Housing Court against owners of privately-owned buildings to enforce compliance with the housing quality standards contained in the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law and the New York City Housing Maintenance Code. HLD attorneys also represent HPD when tenants initiate actions against private owners. HPD is automatically named as party to such actions. The goal of these court proceedings is to obtain enforceable Orders to Correct, Civil Penalties (fines) and Contempt Sanctions, compelling owners to comply with the Housing Code.

Pursuant to New York City’s Housing Maintenance Code, the Department of Housing
Preservation and Development (HPD) collects information on multiple dwellings in New York
City, and other buildings that fall under its jurisdiction. HPD’s Buildings Open Data covers all
buildings which meet any of the following criteria:

a. HPD has required the owner to register the building under the Housing Maintenance
Code (HMC)
b. HPD has initiated a litigation action under the HMC
c. HPD has received a complaint for the building
d. HPD has initiated a work order for the purposes of emergency repair, demolition, or
the Alternative Enforcement Program (AEP) for the building
e. HPD has added the property to the AEP program

Buildings are identified by a BuildingID.

Contains information about organizations or individuals listed on a Multiple Dwelling Registration form.

Local law 159 of 2019 allows HPD to be reimbursed for charges incurred for the relocation of occupants as a result of vacate orders that were issued by HPD, the Fire Department, the Department of Buildings, and other NYC agencies. Such charges, if not paid by the owner, become a tax lien against the property, and are charged to the owner through the Department of Finance statement of account for taxes. The Local Law 159 of 2019: Vacate Relocation Charges By Building dataset shows all aggregate building payments made by HPD in connection with charges incurred for the relocation of occupants as a result of vacate orders. In June 2015, Mayor de Blasio announced the formation of an interagency task force to review the use of three-quarter houses in New York City. Representatives from the task force began to visit and inspect these residences to identify immediate health and safety issues and to relocate residents. Local Law 13 of 2017 requires the Mayor’s Office of Operations to provide quarterly reports on the task force’s findings.

This dataset contains the indicators included in the OneNYC 2050 Strategic Plan that will be used to assess progress in achieving the eight overreaching goals of the plan: (1) Vibrant Democracy; (2) Inclusive Economy; (3) Thriving Neighborhoods; (4) Healthy Lives; (5) Equity and Excellence in Education; (6) Livable Climate; (7) Efficient Mobility; and (8) Modern Infrastructure. Each line of data provides the goal, the relevant sub-initiative, the indicator, the baseline year and value for the indicator and the goal. Data is collected by the Mayor’s Office of Operations from the relevant agency.

This dataset provides key performance indicators for several agencies disaggregated by community district, police precinct, borough or school district. Each line of data indicates the relevant agency, the indicator, the type of geographic subunit and number, and full fiscal year data points. This data is submitted by the relevant agency to the Mayor’s Office of Operations on an annual basis and is available on Operations’ website.
