The School Quality Reports share information about school performance, set expectations for schools, and promote school improvement.
These reports include information from multiple sources, including Quality Reviews, the NYC School Survey, and student performance. The School Quality Reports are organized around the Framework for Great Schools, which includes six elements Rigorous Instruction,
Collaborative Teachers, Supportive Environment, Effective School Leadership, Strong Family Community Ties, and Trust—that drive student
achievement and school improvement.

The Quality Review is a process that evaluates how well schools are organized to support student learning and teacher practice. It was developed to assist New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) schools in raising student achievement by looking behind a school’s performance statistics to ensure that the school is engaged in effective methods of accelerating student learning.

Local Law 15 (2016) requires that NYCDOE provide citywide Health Education instructor data, disaggregated by commuunity school district, city council district, and individual school data. Reports provide the number of licensed full-time and part-time instructors, the number of instructors assigned to teach at least one health education class, the number and percentage of instructors who received professional development training and the total number and percentage of instructors attending multiple sessions of professional development. This report includes number of licensed health instructors for 2015-16 school year. Counts of licensed health instructors represent all active, school-based teachers serving under an NYCDOE health license as of 10/31/2015.

This report provides data regarding students enrolled in New York City schools during the 2017-2018 school year, according to the guidelines set by Local Law 2011/042. At the citywide, borough and district levels, the DOE is required to report discharge, transfer and graduation counts by grade level (middle school only), cohort (high school only) and disability status. Data on students with disabilities, English language learners and students poverty status are as of February 2nd 2015. Due to missing demographic information in rare cases, demographic categories do not always add up to citywide totals. Report on Demographic Data in New York City Public Schools, 2017-18 in response to
Local Law No. 59. Test results, as provided in this report, only count students who were actively enrolled as of October 31, 2017. Therefore, they do not match numbers publicly available elsewhere, which include all test takers.

Local Law 15 enacted in 2016 requires the Department of Education of the New York City School District to submit to the Council information regarding Health Education instructor data. This report inlcudes (i) the total number of licensed health instructors
employed by the department, disaggregated by full-time and part-time instructors; (ii) the total number of instructors assigned to teach at least one health education class.
All information is aggregated citywide, as well as disaggregated by city council district and community school district and, when available, by school.
YABC, D75 home and hospital, D79 and charter schools are excluded from this report.
