This dataset contains all job applications submitted through the Borough Offices, through eFiling, or through the HUB, which have a "Latest Action Date" since January 1, 2000. This dataset does not include jobs submitted through DOB NOW. See the DOB NOW: Build – Job Application Filings dataset for DOB NOW jobs.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) issues permits for construction and demolition activities in the City of New York. The construction industry must submit an application to DOB with details of the construction job they would like to complete. The primary types of application, aka job type, are: New Building, Demolition, and Alterations Type 1, 2, and 3. Each job type can have multiple work types, such as general construction, boiler, elevator, and plumbing. Each work type will receive a separate permit. (See the DOB Job Application Filings dataset for information about each job application.) Each row/record in this dataset represents the life cycle of one permit for one work type. The dataset is updated daily with new records, and each existing record will be updated as the permit application moves through the approval process to reflect the latest status of the application.

This is the universe of complaints received by Department of Buildings (DOB). It includes complaints that come from 311 or that are entered into the system by DOB staff.

List of all approved permits in DOB NOW

This dataset contains cooling tower systems currently registered in the NYC Cooling Tower Registration Portal and Legionella water test dates as reported by a building's qualified person. Decommissioned cooling tower systems are excluded from the dataset.

Cooling tower registration in NYC was mandated by Section 17-194.1 of the NYC Administrative Code on August 18, 2015, and operation and maintenance of cooling towers in NYC are ruled by Chapter 8 of Title 24 of the Rules of the City of New York (Chapter 8).

The cooling tower system’s qualified person, as defined in Chapter 8, must report Legionella water test dates to the NYC Health Department as required by amendments to the NYC Administrative Code Section 17-194.1(f) on April 28, 2019.

The NYC Department of Buildings requires building owners and managers to register their cooling tower systems and the registration data is shared with BWSO for this dataset. Registration data is entered by building owners and managers through the NYC Cooling Tower Registration Portal and cooling tower characteristics (such as building address) are published as entered by the registrant.

A list of sites across the five boroughs where a complaint was made that construction activity has come to an abrupt halt. Daily updates provide all sites where the stalled status is currently active.

Pursuant to New York City’s Housing Maintenance Code, the Department of Housing
Preservation and Development (HPD) collects information on multiple dwellings in New York
City, and other buildings that fall under its jurisdiction. HPD’s Buildings Open Data covers all
buildings which meet any of the following criteria:

a. HPD has required the owner to register the building under the Housing Maintenance
Code (HMC)
b. HPD has initiated a litigation action under the HMC
c. HPD has received a complaint for the building
d. HPD has initiated a work order for the purposes of emergency repair, demolition, or
the Alternative Enforcement Program (AEP) for the building
e. HPD has added the property to the AEP program

Buildings are identified by a BuildingID.

Outdoor advertising regulations and zoning laws reduce visual clutter and protect people from dangerous and illegally installed signs. Signs must comply with regulations outlined in the NYC Construction Codes and the NYC Zoning Resolution. This dataset lists all sign applications filed in New York City.

The NYC 3D Model by Community District is a publicly available model consisting of every building in New York City present in 2014. The model is based on DOITT’s 2014 aerial survey, which provides roof structure details, including a high-level of detail for certain iconic buildings. The Department of City Planning imported and enhanced the DOITT files by converting the entire model into .3dm format, which is compatible with Rhinoceros 3D modeling software. DCP also divided the model into the City’s 59 Community Districts and enriched each CD with base layers, including lots, streets, parks, and rail lines.
The 3D model is capable of being imported into most common 3D-modeling software, including Sketchup and AutoCAD.

As part of NYCHA's NextGeneration Sustainability Agenda, NYCHA has pledged to put 25 MW of solar power on its properties. One of the avenues by which NYCHA aims to meet this goal is the ACcelerating Community Empowered Shared Solar (ACCESSolar) program, where smaller rooftops will be made available at low or no cost to community-based organizations and non-profits teaming up with solar developers. The ACCESSolar program will help maximize the solar potential of NYCHA’s portfolio. NYCHA also aims for this program to provide green jobs to residents, expand the availability of solar power to LMI populations, and facilitate first projects for start-up developers. ACCESSolar applicants will be able to submit an application online starting in late March 2018.

The ACCESSolar program was previously in development as Public Purpose Shared Solar (PPSS) and has been renamed to better reflect the program's goals.

The Limited Alteration Application (LAA) is used for plumbing work, fire suppression piping replacement and repairs, and oil burner installations that do not include construction work. Generally, with the exception of some new installations, LAAs are restricted to repair and/or replacement work for existing appliances and piping systems that do not require a Professional Engineer (PE) or a Registered Architect (RA).

Please note that there are two commercial spaces (not coded under field “comments”)recorded in our property directory which are not part of the portfolio for Facility Planning.

This dataset contains building information for all buildings that have completed a WiredNYC survey. This includes buildings that have opted-out from displaying their profiles publicly. Therefore, the building-specific data (e.g. building address) provided is anonymous and only linked to the borough the building is located in.
